Bratislava/Zagreb, 1 July (TASR-correspondent) – In recent years, foreign trade between Slovakia and Croatia has exceeded the one-billion-euro mark, but there is still room to intensify business relations, President Peter Pellegrini said on Tuesday during the opening of the Slovak-Croatian Business Forum, attended by Croatian President Zoran Milanovic, TASR’s special correspondent reported on the same day. According to Pellegrini, the forum aims to strengthen economic ties between Slovakia and Croatia and to seek new projects and partnerships. He noted that last year more than half a million Slovak citizens visited Croatia — roughly every tenth Slovak. „I’m convinced that Slovakia also has something to offer visitors from Croatia, and that the number of Croatian tourists in Slovakia will grow in the coming years. At the same time, we can be inspired by Croatia’s ability to build infrastructure that meets the high demands of 21st-century tourism,” Pellegrini said. Pellegrini added that Slovaks should not be only tourists in Croatia but also active business and investment partners. Various Slovak companies are launching development projects in Croatia, and the president said it would be a missed opportunity if bilateral cooperation were limited solely to tourism. He highlighted nuclear energy development, e-mobility infrastructure, and renewable energy sources as particularly promising areas. The Mediterranean climate, he noted, offers ideal conditions for photovoltaic energy. „All of us share the interest in deepening cooperation — whether in the food industry, defense, engineering, infrastructure development, innovation, or green technologies,” the Slovak President concluded. He emphasized that public officials in both countries should strive to create the most favorable conditions for further development. mf/mcs
