Sturovo: Vadas Resort Remains Closed, Health Inspectors Take More Samples

Sturovo, 30 June (TASR) - The Vadas Thermal Resort in Sturovo (Nitra region), will remain closed to the public as the Regional Public Health Authority took additional pool water samples on Monday, with lab results expected in about seven days, and reopening will only be possible after receiving official test results. Tests of pool water samples and environmental swabs carried out by the National Reference Centre (NRC) for Hydrobiology at the Public Health Office found no presence of amoebas in these pools, the Regional Public Health Authority has reported. The Vadas thermal resort has been closed since Sunday, 15 June. The closure was prompted by an investigation into water samples at the facility, where an 11-year-old boy had taken part in a swimming course. He later died from an infection caused by the deadly parasite Naegleria fowleri. It remains unclear where the boy contracted the infection. lin/mcs
