Bratislava, 29 June (TASR) - High outdoor temperatures can cause the body to overheat and lead to various health complications, hence authorities are urging the public to follow several recommendations - including maintaining regular hydration, this stems from guidance issued by the Public Health Authority (UVZ), published on the website of the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMU).
„At-risk groups include children, the elderly, pregnant women, and people with chronic illnesses – especially those with cardiovascular, respiratory, or mental conditions, as well as individuals who are overweight," the authority stated.
According to UVZ, high temperatures are often associated with increased body temperature, fatigue, drowsiness, headaches, dizziness, nausea, or vomiting. The authority is therefore calling on the public to maintain a regular drinking routine during heatwaves, even if they do not feel thirsty. „Limit physical activity and avoid staying in direct sunlight," they advised.
On Sunday, high temperatures are expected to hit mainly western and southern Slovakia. In nearly the entire Bratislava and Nitra regions, as well as in the districts of Krupina, Lucenec, Poltar, Revuca, Rimavska Sobota, Velky Krtis, Dunajska Streda, and Galanta, temperatures may reach up to 33 degrees Celsius. Meteorologists have issued a first-level warning for these areas.
