Bratislava, June 26 (TASR) - Devin Castle in Bratislava will once again serve as the venue for the nationwide Cyril and Methodius celebrations in 2025 after the similar event last year and on this occasion, a full-day cultural program is prepared for visitors on Saturday (5 July), TASR learnt on Thursday from the Defence Ministry - which organises the celebrations in cooperation with the ministries of Interior and Health. The goal is to raise public awareness about the significance of the national holiday of Saints Cyril and Methodius. „To learn about and honour the most important historical events in Slovakia’s history should be a basic part of every Slovak’s knowledge. We want to bring people even closer to what this holiday is about, what the arrival of the missionaries meant for the development of the education of the Slavs — their writing, language, territory, and Christianity," explained Karin Silberhorn, director of the Defence Minister's Office. Visitors can look forward to experiencing a full-day festival of history, art, customs, folk creativity, ecumenism, education, and reenactment of historical moments. They will be able to see bread baking, a Glagolitic script scriptorium, a blacksmith’s workshop, and coin minting as well as period costumes, theater, medieval dishes (podpecniky, posuchy), and even bull roasting. Military history clubs are also slated to present their food offerings as well as a horse procession, fencing demonstrations, spear throwing, and axe throwing. Also included in the programme is the display of medieval crafts, ecumenical services in the historic chapel, performances by falconers, and a lecture by ethnologist Katarina Nadaska, while historical music will enhance the atmosphere. mf/mcs
