Bratislava, 26 June (TASR) - The Internal Affairs Inspectorate (UIS) has brought charges against two former officers of the scrapped National Crime Agency (NAKA) B.D. and R.M. [names abbreviated due to legal reasons] of the crime of abuse of power by a public official and obstruction of justice, TASR was told by UIS spokeswoman Andrea Dobiasova on Thursday. "According to the evidence obtained by a UIS investigator, in 2019 based on false facts they allegedly requested the use of information technology devices, so-called wiretaps. They reportedly provided unsubstantiated information and reasons for the deployment of the wiretaps. On that basis, the wiretaps were actually deployed. This was one of the cases concerning a well-known criminal group from western Slovakia," said Dobiasova, adding that the accused were alleged to have committed the offences as public officials during their time at NAKA. They could face a prison sentence of between 3-12 years. am/mcs
