Bratislava, 25 June (TASR) - At its regular session on Wednesday, the government approved the Conceptual Reform of Crisis Management and Civil Protection in Slovakia for 2025-2030, sponsored by the Interior Ministry.
The new crisis management aims to ensure the efficient management of forces and resources. The reform reflects past experiences, such as the coronavirus pandemic, the war in Ukraine, the earthquake in Zemplin area, permanent floods across Slovakia and foot-and-mouth disease.
According to the Interior Ministry, the new concept of crisis management will cover the entire cycle, starting from risk management, recovery and renewal up to the involvement of all necessary components of the state, local governments and communities in regions. "It will be created through a participative procedure with actors operating in the academic environment, local government and other important actors of crisis management and civil protection with practical experience, who are bearers of tasks in the areas of legislation, cooperation and coordination," said the ministry.
In Slovakia, the current system is mainly focused on traditional threats and formally on new challenges such as cyberattacks, terrorism and migration, claims the ministry. Slovakia could improve its crisis management system by adopting a more comprehensive framework that would integrate building of resilience and engagement of communities, and focus on the entire life cycle of crisis management. "In addition, strengthening cooperation between the actors involved would ensure more coherent responses at all levels," stated the ministry.
