Kucerka Asks in Retrial for Sentence that Won't Separate Him from His Family

Pezinok, 24 June (TASR) - I've asked for a sentence in a retrial that won't separate me from my family, won't destroy it financially and will allow me to continue working, former police investigator Marian Kucerka stated on Tuesday before the Specialised Criminal Court (STS) in Pezinok (Bratislava region). Although his guilt is not being decided in the case, he feels innocent. Kucerka decided not to testify, as he's also accused in another trial. The judge also lifted the fine imposed on both the defendant and his lawyer at the previous hearing. With Kucerka's appearance at the hearing on Tuesday, the judge said he no longer saw any reason for it. In 2022, the STS found Kucerka guilty of accepting a bribe. The Supreme Court eventually gave him an unconditional prison sentence of ten years and six months. He was also given a sentence of forfeiture of property. Last year, however, the courts granted Kucerka's motion for a retrial and overturned his original sentence in part of the sentence. am/mcs
