Kosice Mayor Polacek Preparing Formation of New Party Kosice 2030 Movement

Kosice, 20 June (TASR) - Kosice Mayor Jaroslav Polacek is preparing to set up a new political party called 'Kosice 2030 Movement', TASR learnt on Friday. The party's preparatory committee, which includes not only Polacek but also Kosice city spokesman Dusan Tokarcik and Annamaria Sykorova, has notified the Interior Ministry of the collection of the necessary signatures from citizens. The announcement is published on the Interior Ministry's website. The collection of signatures from the people who agree with the formation of the party began on 11 June, according to the announcement. "The political party will use the abbreviation 'Kosice2030'," reads the notice. The party founders must collect at least 10,000 signatures, submit them to the ministry and apply for registration. If they meet all the legal conditions, the Interior Ministry will register the party. According to the party register, there are currently 55 active political parties or movements in Slovakia. Polacek defended his post as Kosice mayor in the 2022 municipal election with 36.79 percent of the vote. He ran as an independent candidate, endorsed by the coalition composed of KDH, SaS, 'We Are Family', NOVA, Alliance, SRK, Good Choice and Moderates, OLANO-NOVA-KU-Change from Below. am/mcs
