Ferencak Should No Longer Be Member of Voice-SD Presidium Following Congress

Bratislava, 18 June (TASR) - MP and parliamentary European affairs committee Jan Ferencak should no longer be a member of the Voice-SD presidium following the party congress due to take place on Saturday (21 June). Ferencak himself told journalists on Wednesday that party leader Matus Sutaj Estok hasn't proposed re-electing him to the presidium. The reason is supposed to be a loss of trust in him, as well as his recent stances, such as his proposal to adjourn the vote on the amendment to the Constitution. The Voice-SD party is set to elect its presidium at Saturday's congress. "The chairman has proposed the names, but mine wasn't among them," said Ferencak, adding that Sutaj Estok cited his position on Tuesday (17 June) regarding the vote on the constitutional amendment as the reason, along with the whole situation in the Voice-SD party in the past six months. Ferencak will take part in the congress. "I don't want to come to any 'hasty' conclusions, but I firmly believe that the Voice party has a future and prospects, and that the values ​​that I profess are the values ​​also honoured by the party members," he said. Ferencak doesn't expect any replacement in the post of party chairman. "This won't happen unless the party's popularity drops to a lower percentage, maybe some 6 percent. This topic isn't on the table, the current chairman enjoys trust," he said. Some time ago, Ferencak was one of the critics of the situation within Voice-SD along with renegades Roman Malatinec, Samuel Migal and Radomir Salitros. Contrary to the trio, Ferencak stayed in the party, of which he is a founding member. However, he had reservations towards the way in which the debate on the constitutional amendment was held and towards its content. He suggested that the quorum necessary to make a constitutional change should be increased from 90 to 100 MPs. ko/df
