PS: Slovak Economy Not Just about Energy, But Also about Firms and Investment

Bratislava, 17 June (TASR) - Slovakia's economy consists not only of energy and industry, but also of small and medium-sized enterprises and foreign investors, opposition MPs Michal Truban and Ivan Stefunko (both Progressive Slovakia/PS) said at a press conference on Tuesday in response to Prime Minister Robert Fico's (Smer-SD) inspection day at the Economy Ministry, adding that the country has the lowest economic growth, the least new investment and the highest inflation in the region. Truban stressed that Fico hasn't commented at all on targeted energy assistance, while the government, according to him, still has no idea what it should look like and has so far only approved the collection of personal data of the population. He fears that the state will continue with across-the-board energy subsidies. Stefunko reacted critically to the premier's statement that Slovakia has a quality workforce and that the country attracts investors to its territory. "We're slipping in the competitiveness rankings, the quality workforce is leaving for the West, we have problems absorbing foreign labour and at the same time our businesses are facing incredible bureaucratic burdens," he emphasised. am
