SaS: There's Enough Gas in Europe, We Aren't Dependent on Russian Gas

Bratislava, 17 June (TASR) - Gas won't become more expensive for us, there is enough gas in Europe and we aren't dependent on Russian gas, the opposition Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) party said in response to Premier Robert Fico's (Smer-SD) statements after an inspection day at the Economy Ministry, where he stated that a complete halt in the supply of energy raw materials from Russia to the EU could mean a 30-50 percent increase in gas prices for households in Slovakia.
SaS pointed out that gas prices are determined by the market and the only thing that could be different compared to other countries would be the transmission fees. "After all, gas is determined by the market and the only thing that can be different compared to other countries is the transmission fees. But again, the fees are related to European countries, so Robert Fico should go to Brussels and negotiate on how the European Union or the European Commission can push for uniform fees," said SaS MP Karol Galek.
SaS again drew attention to the construction of a new nuclear power plant and the fact that the state is selecting the investor without a tender procedure. "Robert Fico even told us today that the contractor will be Westinghouse, no selection procedure, no tender, just Westinghouse," said Galek.
