Direct SNP Participant Frantisek Orlovsky Dies Aged 97

Bratislava, 16 June (TASR) - Frantisek Orlovsky, a direct participant in the Slovak National Uprising (SNP) during WWII, died on Sunday (15 June) at the age of 97, the Slovak Union of Anti-Fascist Fighters confirmed for TASR on Monday. The Defence Ministry posted on a social network that Orlovsky was one of the last surviving SNP participants. "Even at an advanced age, he met young people with unflagging energy and spoke about the horrors of war, fascism and the price of freedom," it noted. Parliamentary Chair Richard Rasi (Voice-SD), also expressed his regret over Orlovsky's death, describing him as a hero who left an indelible mark in the fight against fascism. am/df
