Bratislava, 16 June (TASR) - I'll support the amending drafts proposed by the Christian Democrats (KDH) to the government's amendment to the Constitution, however, I won't vote in favour of the amendment to the Constitution proposed by Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) as a whole, opposition MP Frantisek Majersky (KDH) posted on a social network on Monday.
"I stand behind my colleagues in KDH for better or for worse. I'm convinced that every single proposal that we as KDH have submitted to Parliament is good and would improve the life of people in Slovakia. And I'll do the same when voting on the constitutional amendment," said Majersky, claiming that he made the decision on how he'll vote long ago inside himself and communicated it to his colleagues. According to Majersky, KDH is a democratic party and this is what allows him to decide and vote as he wants. He doesn't want to divide the party, the caucus or society with his decision not to vote for the constitutional amendment.
"In my opinion, the world of values that Robert Fico represents has nothing in common with the values that I want to represent and that KDH represents. I don't believe one bit that Robert Fico's interest in conservative themes and values was sincere," he stated, adding that the premier wanted to destroy KDH and strengthen his power by amending the Constitution.
According to the draft, two genders - male and female - are to be enshrined in the country's supreme law. At the same time, the Constitution is to include a guarantee of equality between men and women in pay for work done. The constitutional law should regulate the adoption of children and the educational process. The proposal is also intended to secure sovereignty for Slovakia in terms of issues relating to values and cultural and ethical issues.
