Bratislava, 16 June (TASR) - Parliament continued its 35th session on Monday, with MPs holding a debate on the government's amendment to the Slovak Constitution. The changes included in the amendment mainly concern cultural and ethical issues. MPs will continue with the debate even after 8 p.m. if necessary, but there will be no vote on Monday. In line with the draft amendment, two genders - male and female - should be enshrined in the Constitution, which should also include a guarantee of equality between men and women regarding their remuneration for work. In addition, the Constitution should address the adoption of children and a parent's right to decide on the participation of their child in educational procedures. With the amendment, the government wants to establish Slovakia's sovereignty concerning value-based and cultural-ethical issues. MPs for the opposition Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) and the Christian Union (KU), which is a part of the 'Slovakia', 'For the People' and KU caucus, announced last week that they'd found agreement on the joint amending proposal with the coalition. ko/df
