Bratislava, 15 June (TASR) - M.R. Stefanik Airport in Bratislava processed 172,464 passengers during both departures and arrivals in May 2025, which is 34 percent more than in the same month of 2024, TASR has learnt from airport spokesperson Veronika Demovicova.
"We posted a record in May - the highest number of passengers handled in May in the 74 years of the airport's existence, i.e. since 1951. The highest-ever May figure has been achieved thanks to new air routes and higher flight frequencies. We exceeded the previous record from May 2008, when 171,466 people were dealt with during both arrivals and departures, by almost 1,000 passengers this May," said airport general director Dusan Novota.
The highest numbers of passengers flew to London, Hurghada (Egypt), Alghero (Sardinia), Milan and Malta in May. Novota ascribed the record growth in the number of passengers to new direct lines to Gdansk, Bari (Italy), Milan-Malpensa, and direct flights to Istanbul, Antalya (Turkey), and Hurghada.
Bratislava airport dealt with 593,712 passengers between January and May of this year, up 22 percent year-on-year. From the beginning of the year to the end of May, a total of 9,475 flights took place at Bratislava Airport, 3 percent more than for the same period of last year.
