Bratislava, 9 June (TASR) - Slovakia exported goods worth €9 billion in April 2025, down 0.3 percent year-on-year (y-o-y), while imports grew by 4.2 percent to reach approximately €9 billion as well, according to preliminary figures released by the Statistics Office on Monday. Slovakia thus showed a trade-balance deficit of a mere €273,000 in April, which is the smallest difference between exports and imports in its history. Exports were dragged down chiefly by a 2-percent drop in the category of machinery and transport equipment, including cars. This drop was primarily offset by a 19-percent growth in the category of miscellaneous industrial products. The category of miscellaneous industrial products had also the greatest impact on the growth in imports as well, going up 15.5 percent y-o-y in April. The most-frequently traded articles were machinery and transport equipment, which made up over 61 percent of total exports and over 48 percent of total imports. Almost 78 percent of total exports headed to other EU countries, while imports from these countries accounted for almost 64 percent. Exports to the rest of the Union declined by over 1 percent y-o-y, while imports grew by more than 1 percent. Exports outside the EU increased by more than 4 percent, while imports from third countries rose by over 10 percent. Slovakia's exports in the first four months of this year went up by 4.5 percent to €36.7 billion, while imports rose by 10.2 percent to €36.4 billion. Slovakia thus posted a trade-balance surplus of €299.9 million, compare to a surplus of €2.1 billion it reported for the same period of 2024. ko
