Pezinok, 6 June (TASR) - A prosecutor in his final speech before the Specialised Criminal Court (STS) on Friday demanded a suspended prison sentence at the upper limit for ex-justice minister Gabor G., who is facing charges of accepting a bribe.
At the same time, the prosecutor wants a fine of at least €80,000 to be imposed on him. The prosecutor believes that the act took place as described in the indictment and that it has been sufficiently proven, although Gabor G. has denied his guilt. The prosecutor claims that the fact that the defendant committed the act has been proven mainly by the testimonies of witnesses and documentary evidence. He pointed out that even though the defendant decided to testify in court after witnesses provided their testimonies, he refused to answer supplementary questions.
An investigator of the National Crime Agency charged Gabor G. with accepting a bribe in 2022. According to the indictment, Gabor G. requested and accepted a bribe of €50,000 in 2018 in exchange for ensuring that decision-making processes at the Slovak Land Fund would be unblocked. If found guilty, he could be sentenced to one to five years in prison.
