SHMU: Majority of May Cold, Although with a Few Tropical Days

Bratislava, 5 June (TASR) - Most days of this year's May were accompanied by significantly below-average air temperatures, however, at the beginning and end of the month, tropical days occurred in the warmest regions of Slovakia, the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMU) reported on its website on Thursday. Overall, SHMU rated the month as very cold to normal. The absolute lowest air temperature at meteorological stations below 1,000 meters above sea level was recorded on 9 May at the Vernar station (-5.4 degrees Celsius). The highest air temperature was recorded on 31 May in the village of Slovensky Grob (30.6 degrees Celsius). „A tropical day in May 2025 was also recorded at the stations in Sastin (30.5°C), Strkovec (30.5°C), Moravsky Svaty Jan (30.3°C), Gabcikovo (30.2°C), and Senica (30.0°C),” SHMU added. In terms of precipitation, May in Slovakia ranged from very dry to wet. The lowest monthly precipitation total was recorded in Bratislava – Mlynska dolina with 21.0 millimeters. The highest monthly precipitation total was measured at the Martinske hole station with 145.0 millimeters. mf
