Matovic: Decision Not to Declare Referendum Proof That Fico Lies about Sanctions

Bratislava, June 4 (TASR) - The opposition 'Slovakia' party sees the decision not to declare a referendum on scrapping sanctions against Russia as evidence that Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) was lying, and it underlined that the prime minister's statements about sanctions harming Slovakia were merely political theatrics.
"In his rejection of the referendum on Wednesday, President Peter Pellegrini claimed that there is no evidence that anti-Russian sanctions harm Slovakia. With that, he definitively exposed Fico's monstrous lie, which Fico used to rally against the sanctions. At the same time, however, he [Pellegrini] spat in the face of his pro-Russian voters, whom he actively courted before the presidential election," stated MP and 'Slovakia' leader Igor Matovic.
