Bratislava, 3 June (TASR) - The average nominal monthly salary in Slovakia amounted to €1,518 in the first quarter of 2025, up by 4.9 percent (or €71) year-on-year (y-o-y), the Statistics Office reported on Tuesday. However, rising inflation at the beginning of the year slowed down real salary growth to a mere 1 percent, the slowest pace of growth seen since the final quarter of 2023. The seasonally adjusted average salary rose by 1.6 percent from the final quarter of 2024. Eighteen of the 19 monitored branches of the economy posted increases in average nominal monthly salaries, ranging from 1 percent in the education sector to almost 14 percent in real estate and in mining and quarrying. When considering inflation, 16 sectors reported real salary increases, while real salaries in energy (electricity, gas and steam) supplies fell by 11.4 percent, those in education dropped by 2.8 percent, and those in public administration went down by 1.7 percent. Employees engaged in 13 sectors earned higher than average real monthly salaries, with the most significant growth felt by employees in mining and quarrying, in the real-estate sector and in water management. Among the sectors with the biggest workforces, salaries in trade outstripped those in industry for the first time in 1.5 years in the first quarter of 2025. Nominal monthly salaries in trade grew by 6.2 percent to €1,453, while their real growth reached 2.2 percent, which is more than the average for the Slovak economy as a whole. Industry, the biggest sector in terms of labour, posted a 4.3-percent increase in nominal salaries, with the average salary in the sector amounting to €1,624. However, its real growth reached only 0.4 percent. The highest average monthly salary was reported in the financial and insurance sector, and it exceeded the threshold of €3,100 for the first time. Salaries of over €2,600 were also earned by employees in the IT sector, as well as those engaged in energy supplies. However, salaries in 11 of the 19 monitored sectors were below the national average. Conversely, the lowest earnings were received by employees in the hospitality sector, with the average monthly salary standing at just €908, and by those engaged in other activities (€964). ko/df
