Bratislava, 2 June (TASR) - Leader of the Voice-SD coalition party and Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok welcomed the agreement among coalition partners regarding adjustments to the transaction tax, TASR learnt on Monday. The tax should be modified in favor of working people and should not affect sole traders or small businesses. However, the resulting revenue shortfall will need to be compensated, for example by removing a public holiday as a non-working day, he stated on social media. „Following a proposal from employers, we are suggesting that one of the holidays — in this case, November 17th — will no longer be considered a non-working day. The Day of the Struggle for Freedom and Democracy [marking the Velvet Revolution that ended the communist rule in Slovakia - ed.note] will still remain a significant milestone in our history, but we can honor it in other ways,” Sutaj Estok said. The Voice-SD leader emphasized that working people, vulnerable groups, and families can no longer bear the consequences of necessary fiscal consolidation, needed today because of the governance by previous cabinets. mf
