Podgorica/Bratislava, May 30 (TASR-correspondent) - Members of the Slovak delegation in Montenegro include entrepreneurs from the energy and green technology sectors, whose stories demonstrate that sustainable solutions are not just a vision but already a reality, Slovak President Peter Pellegrini declared at the Montenegrin-Slovak Business Forum in Podgorica on Friday.
In his speech, Pellegrini called for strengthening ties beyond just tourism, aiming to leverage the mutual trust between the two countries into tangible economic results, according to TASR's special correspondent present at the event.
„Both our countries are proud of the beauty of our natural environment. That’s why the efficient use of its resources is a shared priority,” said the Slovak head of state.
Pellegrini sees opportunities for Slovak businesses in Montenegro’s growing economy, its location in the Western Balkans, and its attractive conditions in the tourism sector.
Interest among Slovaks in Montenegro as a holiday destination is increasing, he noted. Following talks with his counterpart Jakov Milatovic in Cetinje, Pellegrini announced the resumption of direct air service between Podgorica and Bratislava during the summer season.
At the business forum, Pellegrini highlighted what Slovakia can offer Montenegro: a stable business environment, a strategic location in the “heart” of Europe, and the advantage of being a eurozone member. Montenegro, though it uses the euro as its official currency, is not formally a member of the eurozone.
„We’re also happy to share our experience with digitisation, which has become a strategic necessity for any economy aiming to remain competitive,” the president added, noting that Slovakia and its companies have made significant progress in e-government and software development for European and global markets.
According to Pellegrini, the automotive industry and related electromobility have had a particularly strong influence on Slovakia’s economy and its trade with international partners. He described Slovakia’s longstanding experience in this sector as another opportunity for joint projects with Montenegrin partners.
One of the Slovak companies at the business forum was DAITABLE, a startup founded two years ago that develops energy management software. Its co-founder and CEO Simon Stano said he views Montenegro as a promising country. He noted that larger markets like Austria and Germany are already saturated, so his company is focusing on other regions, including Eastern Europe.
Pellegrini and Milatovic also paid tribute to fallen fighters of the anti-fascist and national liberation struggle during 1941–1945 by laying a wreath at the Soldier Monument in Podgorica.
