Bratislava, May 30 (TASR) - Tourism and Sport Minister Rudolf Huliak (Independent) wants civil aviation to return to Sliac Airport (Banska Bystrica region), the minister himself said on Friday following his meeting with Premier Robert Fico (Smer-SD) regarding the progress made in fulfilling the government manifesto at the ministry.
"At the next government session, I will definitely insist on a government resolution so that it is put down on paper and doesn't remain just a dream, and so that we'll actually manage to return civil aviation to Sliac Airport," stated Huliak, adding that he's already spoken to Defence Minister Robert Kalinak (Smer-SD) about the issue.
Civilian flights at Sliac Airport were halted in late 2020 due to the necessary reconstruction of the military part of the facility. This should be completed in two years.
Huliak views the resumption of civilian air transport at Sliac Airport as necessary for the local spa and for Banska Bystrica region, as central Slovakia isn't served by air transport at all at the moment.
In addition to this, Huliak mentioned that developing caravanning in Slovakia is one of the ministry's priorities in the field of tourism after his meeting with the premier. He wants new infrastructure to be built for this type of tourism, as it is experiencing a boom in Europe.
