Zvolen, 30 May (TASR) - The 2025 City Days of Zvolen (Banska Bystrica region) began on Friday morning beneath Pusty Castle, featuring a tribute to Ludovit Stur, folklore performances and concerts, TASR has learnt from the city's spokesperson Martin Svatuska, who added that the event will run until Saturday (31 May). It was decided to honour one of the most significant figures in Slovak history by combining the anniversary of his birth with city celebrations. "We're proud that Ludovit Stur represented our city in the Hungarian Parliament. The City Days are an opportunity to draw even greater attention to our historical figure," explained Zvolen's mayor Vladimir Manka. To mark the anniversary of his birth, the events include a discussion on the first Slovak film about Ludovit Stur, a theatre excerpt, and performances in Ludovit Stur Park, which will be illuminated at night. A film will also be projected onto the pedestal of his bust. On Saturday, the square will host events as part of the Children's Folklore Festival, which focuses on preserving, understanding and promoting traditional Slovak culture, especially singing. This year's festival is dedicated to Roma customs, dances and songs. Accompanying events for the City Days will include a folk crafts fair, exhibitions at the Forestry and Timber Museum, the old town hall and the regional library, and a visit to the tower of Zvolen church. lin/df
