Bratislava, May 28 (TASR) - The doctor who has had a service apartment allocated to her by the Interior Ministry met all the prerequisites required by law and the amount she pays for it in rent is determined in accordance with a decree issued by the Transport Ministry, ministry spokesperson Matej Neumann stated for TASR on Wednedsay.
Neumann said this in response to Wednesday’s statements by representatives of the opposition's 'Slovakia' party.
„Currently, we have around 200 requests for service apartments, and we process them based on current availability and personnel needs, as we recently did with apartments for police officers in Trnava and Secovce, where there was a need to hire new officers. At present, more than 1,300 police officers, firefighters, and employees of the Interior Ministry live in the ministry's service apartments, flats, and hostels," said Neumann.
The spokesperson claimed that former interior minister Roman Mikulec (2020-23) and leader of the 'Slovakia' party Igor Matovic had no objections when former defense minister (2020-23) Jaroslav Nad rented a four-room apartment in Bratislava’s Ruzinov borough to a spokesperson for less than €180 per month.
„Mr. Mikulec even defended the allocation of a service apartment to a former police president who was already criminally prosecuted at the time and later became Mikulec's advisor," the spokesperson said.
At a press conference earlier on Wednesday, Mikulec stated that the ministry had rented a service apartment to the daughter of an associate of the interior minister for €69 per month. According to Mikulec, the rental may be problematic, since the police officer — who is also a doctor — has not completed her„int police training yet and holds a temporary service position.
