Mikulec: Service Flat Allocated Unjustly to Daughter of Sutaj Estok's Associate

Bratislava, May 28 (TASR) - A daughter of an associate of Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok (Voice-SD) is reportedly using a state-owned apartment normally allocated to police officers, firefighters in public service, or other employees of the ministry, former interior minister (2020-23) and MP Roman Mikulec (Slovakia-For the People-KU alliance) warned at a press conference on Wednesday, adding it is questionable whether the woman is entitled to such housing. The minister’s associate is apparently a close collaborator of Sutaj Estok, „since he managed to secure a three-room apartment in Bratislava for his daughter for €69 per month. I emphasize — this is a service apartment, typically allocated to police officers, firefighters, or people in true need of such a place,” Mikulec said. Mikulec explained that the woman is in a temporary service position and has not even completed police training yet. According to the Interior Ministry’s bulletin, she should not be entitled to a service apartment unless it was granted directly by the minister himself. That is only possible in cases deemed to be of special consideration. Mikulec wants to know what reason justified this allocation. Michal Sipos, who chairs 'Slovakia'-For the People-KU alliance caucus, labeled the ministry’s actions as a display of “elitism” or “cronyism” and added that the market rent for a similar apartment starts at €900. Mikulec also pointed out that hundreds of firefighters and police officers have been waiting for service apartments in vain for years. mf
