Bratislava, 27 May (TASR) - The German chancellor will not "play games" with Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) over EU funds, said representatives of the opposition 'Slovakia' party in response to Chancellor Friedrich Merz's statement on Monday (26 May) that Slovakia could lose access to EU funds.
"What the German chancellor said is clear proof that he won't play games with Robert Fico. Fico is an embarrassment to the European Union. If Robert Fico continues to harm Slovakia in this way, we'll eventually end up in the same situation as Hungary. The Hungarians have gone years without EU funds," said party leader Igor Matovic.
According to him, this is reflected in lower salaries in Hungary and significantly slower economic growth. "It's, in fact, affecting even the voters of the government that set this foreign policy course in Hungary," said Matovic.
