Zvolen, 26 May (TASR) - The Forestry and Timber Museum in Zvolen (Banska Bystrica region) is preparing a lecture on Ludovit Stur, a key figure in Slovak national history, to be delivered by Jozsef Demmel on Thursday, 29 May, ahead of the Days of the City of Zvolen, according to the museum's official website. 'Ludovit Stur and the City of Zvolen, the First Slovak Member of the Hungarian Parliament' is the title of the event that will start at 5 p.m. and will present the life of the Slovak poet. "The codifier of the Slovak literary language, founder of the first Slovak political newspaper, and military and political leader of the Slovak movement in 1848," the museum described him, adding that Stur was the first historical figure to promote Slovak national interests in the Hungarian Parliament, representing the royal town of Zvolen. At the lecture by a researcher from the Institute of History of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAV), visitors will learn about Stur's speeches at the sessions of the parliament in Bratislava, as well as many other details. The museum curator and historian Tatiana Figurova said that if schools are interested in a lecture about Stur's life, the museum's historians are available. "We're willing to give lectures at schools as well, but ideally it's held in our premises, where it's more authentic," she noted, adding that visits to the exhibition should be booked in advance. Stur was the most significant figure in Slovak national life in the first half of the 19th century, and special Years of Ludovit Stur has been regularly celebrated in Slovakia since 1985. lin
