Bratislava, 22 May (TASR) - The coalition Voice-SD party will hold a congress in Poprad (Presov region) on 21 June, where the party will "take a breath", Voice-SD leader and Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok announced at a press conference on Thursday. Sutaj Estok declared that he'll continue in his role as party chairman with full determination and that he enjoys the support of the party membership. He pointed out that Voice-SD has gone through a challenging journey over the past year. "We will have a congress in Poprad on 21 June, where I believe the party will take a breath. I can guarantee you that I will continue performing my duties as Interior Minister and party chairman just as I have until now — with full determination, enthusiasm and energy," declared the Voice-SD leader. Sutaj Estok added that his party is democratic and has gone through a difficult path. "It isn't easy when you lose the most popular politician and leader, when you're betrayed by people who never deserved your trust, when you're part of a government that also implements unpopular measures," he stated. "We are at the half-time of governance; right now is when we need to take a breath. I'm absolutely ready for it, determined, and I feel support from the members of the leadership as well," he added. Sutaj Estok was elected as chair of Voice-SD on 1 June 2024, after his predecessor, Peter Pellegrini, won the presidential election. The Voice-SD statutes state that the chairperson's term is generally four years. mf/df
