Bratislava, 21 May (TASR) - The coalition Voice-SD party has prepared a "specific proposal" for changing the financing of political parties, Interior Minister and Voice-SD leader Matus Sutaj Estok stated on social media on Wednesday, adding that the number of MPs in Slovak Parliament could also be reconsidered as part of cost-saving measures, a topic also addressed by Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) on the same day. "In today's situation, when everyone has to save, it's appropriate to look at state subsidies for parties that will never make it into Parliament and bring no benefit to the public," said the minister. Sutaj Estok acknowledged the discussion about the number of MPs in Parliament. He questioned whether 100 MPs would be sufficient to maintain Slovakia's democratic values. As part of saving public finances, he also suggested that reducing the number of ministries could be considered. The minister stated that the party has long proposed changing the electoral system, stating that the House shouldn't primarily consist of MPs from Bratislava. "It's high time that every region has its representative in Parliament," he noted. lin
