Bratislava, 21 May (TASR) - State-owned gas utility SPP must ensure, either directly or through contracts with other participants in the wholesale gas market, that 17.754 terawatt hours (TWh) of gas is stored in underground reservoirs on Slovakia's territory by 1 November in accordance with the general economic interest (VHZ), as approved by the government on Wednesday.
SPP is also required to have 5.724 TWh of gas stored by the beginning of July and 14.601 TWh by the end of August. These reserves must be gradually drawn on by SPP solely for the purpose of supplying end consumers in Slovakia.
"The proposed measures primarily consist of the obligation to ensure that a specified volume of gas is stored in underground gas storage facilities (UGSF) before the 2025/2026 heating season through Slovak company SPP, with the aim of strengthening the security and continuity of gas supplies for consumers in the Slovak Republic during the 2025/2026 heating season, given the high share of natural gas as a source of heat production used specifically for heating," stated the Economy Ministry in the document.
