Government: Rules for Admitting Foreigners into Slovakia Might Change

Bratislava, 21 May (TASR) - The rules for admitting foreigners into Slovakia might change, with the validity of visas issued upon application being extended from 90 to 120 days and some administrative duties being scrapped, according to a draft amendment to the law on foreigners' stays approved by the government at its session on Wednesday. The Interior Ministry, which submitted the draft, believes that the changes will simplify the system and relieve the burden on the aliens police. Based on the legal amendment, Slovakia could also set quotas for the number of temporary stay permit applications for business purposes to be accepted. It would also introduce a list of countries from which foreigners will be admitted onto its territory. "At the same time, levels of economic benefit for our country will be evaluated," the ministry explained. The ministry has proposed that the draft amendment should be dealt with via a fast-track legislative procedure. If Parliament approves it in this form, it would take effect as of July 1, 2025. ko/df
