Bratislava, 21 May (TASR) - The Bratislava Regional Prosecutor's Office has dropped charges against former environment minister J. B. (name abbreviated due to legal reasons) for formal and legal reasons, Bratislava Regional Prosecutor's Office spokesperson Gabriela Kovacova informed TASR on Wednesday.
At the same time, the prosecutor ordered an investigator to re-file the charges, but in a legal manner.
"A prosecutor of the Bratislava Regional Prosecutor's Office, within the scope of her supervisory powers, revoked on 19 May an investigator's resolution of 12 May to charge J. B. with the ongoing crime of breaching obligations in the management of somebody else's property for formal and legal reasons. The prosecutor also tasked the investigator with re-indicting this person, but in a legal fashion," said Kovacova.
The police on 12 May charged J.B. with the ongoing crime of violating obligations in the management of somebody else's property in connection with inefficient, wasteful and purposeless use of Environment Ministry funds. This allegedly caused damage to the state budget worth a total of almost €570,000. The ex-minister in this connection has declared on a social network that he honestly defended the public interest. He therefore believes that the criminal proceedings will prove to be unfounded.
