Bratislava, 19 May (TASR) - By not accepting the pandemic agreement, the government has clearly decided to omit scientific facts and follow an ideology of subversion and promote conspiracies, the opposition Christian Democrats (KDH) pointed out in a statement on Monday, adding that Slovakia will thus lose access to the most up-to-date findings in the fight against global epidemics and diseases
and that it is a step against Slovak patients and scientists.
"At the same time, we won't be sitting at the important health table, where cooperation is built, which is most important in the fight against dangerous diseases," added KDH. In this regard, the party noted that the World Health Organisation (WHO) works closely with the world's biggest experts. "The agreement doesn't commit Slovakia to anything, decisions on the obligation to vaccinate, lockdowns, testing remain at the local national level," pointed out KDH.
The 78th session of the World Health Assembly is taking place in Geneva, Switzerland, between 19-27 May. The text of the pandemic agreement to better prepare for and combat pandemics has been under negotiation for several years. Among other things, the draft affirms the sovereignty of countries to address public-health issues within their own borders.
Prime Minister Fico said on Saturday (17 May) that the government had decided that Slovakia should not support the so-called pandemic agreement and that it should be put to a vote instead of being adopted by global consensus.
