Bratislava, May 16 (TASR) - An investigator from the Internal Affairs Inspectorate (UIS) has charged a 25-year-old Bratislava police officer with possessing child pornography and participation in a performance of child pornography, spokeswoman for the police inspectorate Andrea Dobiasova told TASR on Friday, adding that the crime was revealed due to international cooperation between UIS and Europol. "On the basis of information provided as part of international cooperation with the cyber investigation unit of Germany's Bavarian State Police, on March 10 a UIS investigator arrested a 25-year-old police officer called F.F. [name abbreviated due to legal reasons] from the Regional Traffic Inspectorate in Bratislava. According to information from the Bavarian police, between 2021-2025 police officer F.F. repeatedly downloaded and subsequently stored videos containing child pornography from a darknet platform," she stated. UIS subsequently conducted a search of the police officer's home and seized data carriers containing pornographic material. F.F. has fully confessed to the offence and may face a prison sentence of up to two years. An extensive investigation into the darknet platform has been underway since the beginning of 2022. Europol has taken over global coordination of the operation, along with identifying the victims. "More than 91,000 videos containing child pornography have been published on the platform. A total of 1,393 users have been identified so far. They paid fees exclusively in cryptocurrencies in order to conceal their identities," said Dobiasova, adding that 38 countries participated in an international operation called OP Stream between March 10-23, 2025. am/df
