Bratislava, May 15 (TASR) - The government will decide on Slovakia's stance in the vote on the so-called pandemic agreement on Monday (May 19), said Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) after the cabinet meeting on Thursday.
The government was expected to decide on the way in which our delegation will participate in the World Health Assembly in Switzerland on Thursday, but in the end the talks on the agreement were suspended. Fico stressed that there are differing opinions on the attitude to the agreement, but Smer-SD considers it to be "absolutely unacceptable".
"We've been discussing the pandemic agreement for a long time because it will be voted on in Switzerland on Monday or Tuesday. There are differing opinions on the approach of the Slovak government to this agreement, so the final decision will be made on Monday morning, when we'll tell you how the government will act and what instructions will be given to the delegation that will represent the Slovak Republic," stated the prime minister, adding that the delegation can oppose, "call for a vote" or abstain. "The pandemic agreement is absolutely unacceptable for us, and Smer-SD will never support it in any way," said Fico.
The 78th session of the World Health Assembly will be held in Geneva, Switzerland, between May 19-27.
