Slovakia Supports El-Enany as Candidate for Post of UNESCO General Director

Bratislava, May 14 (TASR) - Slovakia supports the candidacy of Khaled El-Enany for the post of UNESCO general director, Culture Minister Martina Simkovicova (a Slovak National Party/SNS nominee) stated following her Thursday's meeting with El-Enany and Ambassador of Egypt to Slovakia Ayman Kamel, TASR was told by Culture Ministry's communications department head Petra Bacinska on Wednesday. "The Slovak Republic supports Khaled El-Enany's candidacy for the post of UNESCO general director and praises his determination to strengthen UNESCO's role in peace-building and the protection of cultural heritage. Our country is proud of its rich cultural heritage and we are delighted to contribute to its presentation on a global scale," said Simkovicova. El-Enany presented his vision and goals for improving the functioning, funding and awareness of UNESCO on a global scale. At the meeting he was interested in Slovak sites inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. He also spoke about the vision to strengthen UNESCO's role as a bridge between cultures and civilizations. With the Egyptian ambassador, Simkovicova discussed the confirmation of the strong bilateral relations in the field of culture, which are enshrined in the agreement on cooperation in the field of science, education, culture and sport as of 2016. Both sides want to further deepen cooperation in the field of culture and heritage protection. am
