Svidnik, May 14 (TASR) - The town of Svidnik in Presov region commemorated the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War with several events, spokeswoman for the town Kristina Tchirova told TASR on Wednesday, noting that in addition to the commemoration at the memorials in Svidnik and Dukla, an educational day for 250 primary school pupils was held at the House of Culture on Tuesday (May 13).
Commemorative events were held on May 7 at Dukla, at the statue of Army General Ludvik Svoboda and at the Soviet Army Memorial in Svidnik. According to Tchirova, all generations, from nursery children to older members of the Slovak Anti-Fascist Fighters Union, met at the statue of General Svoboda in Svidnik.
"With the last contemporary witnesses of the horrors of wars, the last memories will also go, so it's important to build interest among our children and youth. And this, I believe, we're successfully carrying out in Svidnik," said Svidnik mayor Marcela Ivancova.
