Bratislava, May 14 (TASR) - Leader of the opposition and MP Michal Simecka (Progressive Slovakia/PS) believes that it's Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) who spreads the most hatred and is causing polarisation in society, and Simecka has conveyed this to Fico in an open letter as well, TASR learnt on Wednesday. In the letter, Simecka called on the prime minister to step down from his post, as he believes that Fico is not concerned with Slovakia, but only with himself. In addition, Simecka voiced regret that instead of defusing polarisation after the assassination attempt on him last year, the prime minister decided to pour even more oil on the fire instead. "Allow me to express regret over what happened a year ago in Handlova. I condemned this unprecedented and heinous act immediately after it happened ... I understand that you went through a huge amount of trauma connected with fear for your own life. A normal person would definitely seek professional help, which is entirely appropriate in the case of such a borderline incident. A normal person would also do everything to contribute to a change in the social atmosphere after such a terrible act, calming passions and hatred. Unfortunately, you've chosen the opposite path. Instead of reducing polarisation and changing your rhetoric, you decided to pour even more oil on the fire. You threw away the chance for social reconciliation, you trampled it into the ground," Simecka told Fico. Simecka believes that the prime minister has lost touch with reality and sees an enemy around every corner. He warned that with this, the prime minister is leading both himself and all of Slovakia into isolation. The letter touched on what Simecka sees as Fico’s inability to lead the country. According to the PS leader, even before the assassination attempt, Fico was already a bad politician and he reproached Fico for not caring about the people of Slovakia. In addition, Simecka criticized Fico for pitying himself instead of serving the Slovak people. "When I look at your speeches today, I see a frustrated, tired, burned-out man. A man who finds the last bits of motivation not in a vision for his country, but only in personal revenge," he noted. At the same time, Simecka called on the prime minister to step down. "You are not fit to govern. Hatred and revenge will not help the people of Slovakia. Walk away, Mr. Prime Minister. You will feel better, and more importantly, Slovakia will feel better. If you do not find the strength to leave, then we will defeat you in the elections," he added. mf/df
