Groehling and Remisova: It Is Premier Fico Who Spreads Hatred in Society

Bratislava, May 13 (TASR) - Chair of the opposition party SaS and MP Branislav Groehling will not respond positively to the letter from Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) and instead will call on the prime minister to normalize relations with the member states of the EU, TASR learnt from Groehling's social media post on Tuesday. In this context, chair of the 'For the People' party and MP Veronika Remisova declared that the prime minister cannot explain rising taxes or the decline in living standards to the public, which is why he has embraced red herring topics to divert attention away from these issues. Both Groehling and Remisova underlined that it is Fico himself who has been spreading hatred in society. "Stop abusing fast-tracked legislative procedures and MP proposals to bypass the proper legislative process. You have a very narrow majority, yet you act as if voters gave you a constitutional mandate. Your coalition was elected by only a third of eligible voters, and you do not have a mandate for drastic changes — this is where the massive dissatisfaction comes from. Change it. Slow down. Soften your approach. Give people constitutional and legal certainty," Groehling wrote in his post addressed to Fico. Remisova emphasized that the prime minister is systematically jeopardizing Slovakia’s security interests. According to her, Fico openly cooperates with representatives of hostile regimes that are committing terrorist acts across the region in particular and Europe in general. "Recent revelations in Poland, where Russian networks orchestrated attacks on civilian targets, are just another example of what we all know — that Russia is waging its dirty war in our region too. Yet Fico maintains full contact with representatives of this regime, undermines our security, weakens our anchoring in the democratic community, and thus threatens the basic national interests of the Slovak Republic. And this is the man who is now convening the Security Council to turn those who criticize his destructive policies into targets," she said. Earlier on Tuesday, Prime Minister Robert Fico announced he will convene the Security Council in response to the rise in hate speech, physical conflicts in public, and the high likelihood of another attack on a public official. He intends to address the issue at a government session as well. This was stated in a letter sent to party leaders and four TV broadcasters, in which he also proposed moving televised debates from Sundays to weekdays. mf
