Bratislava, May 13 (TASR) - Coalition politicians are exploiting last year's assassination attempt on Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) for a political witch hunt, non-parliamentary 'Democrats' party stated on Tuesday. According to the 'Democrats', the government knows the attacker acted as a lone wolf and had no affiliation with the Democrats. The party made this statement on social media in response to Tuesday’s press conference by coalition politicians at the Government Office. "You need to feed your hungry wolves — those to whom you promised revenge and mass purges. But more than a year has passed and they have not received even a crumb. That is why today you are once again pointing fingers — not because you believe your own words, but because you are running out of options. Even the accusation against Juraj Seliga, Mr. Lindtner, was botched. Your politics have made you ambassadors of evil. You are not leading the country, you are only leading hatred," the party stated. The 'Democrats' noted that the coalition’s power is based on lies, fear, and a desire for revenge. Earlier on Tuesday, House Vice-chair Tibor Gaspar (Smer-SD) said that law enforcement authorities should take action regarding hate speech. He also called on the media not to downplay such expressions. Gaspar reiterated that the attacker who had targeted Prime Minister Fico was connected with the opposition, and expressed concern about who might be the next target of a similar attack. mf
