Bratislava, May 13 (TASR) - The opposition Progressive Slovakia (PS) party is calling on the Prosecutor-General's Office to oversee compliance with the law at the Slovak Arts Support Council (FPU), criticising members of the council for not attending meetings and attempting to circumvent the law, TASR learnt on Tuesday from MP Zora Jaurova (PS), who submitted the request.
PS also objects to the dismissal of Robert Spotak from his post of FPU director.
"There are nominees sitting on the council who were appointed unlawfully, which has been confirmed by the Prosecutor-General's Office. These nominees, in addition to not attending council meetings— thus paralysing the fund — also tried to bypass the FPU Act and the process of decision-making by expert commissions. Everything culminated a few days ago when the council dismissed director Spotak precisely because he attempted to uphold the law and insisted on legal compliance," stated Jaurova.
The MP believes that this isn't just about the destruction of culture but also about dismantling the rule of law. She praised the work and activities of former FPU director Spotak. "I believe that the Prosecutor-General's Office or other legal institutions in Slovakia will eventually support his actions and uphold the law even in the field of culture," she added.
