STVR's New General Director Should Be Announced on Monday Afternoon

Bratislava, May 12 (TASR) - The name of the new general director of public-service Slovak Television and Radio (STVR) should be announced on Monday afternoon, as the STVR Council is scheduled to hear the candidates at 10 a.m. and subsequently elect the director, according to the council's website.
Five candidates are running for the STVR general director post - Martina Flasikova, Martin Jakubec, Peter Janku, Norbert Majer and Igor Slanina. The council published their names at its previous meeting in late April.
The candidates will have a maximum of 30 minutes to present their projects during the hearings, which will be broadcast online, with a maximum of half an hour reserved for follow-up questions from the council.
The public contest for the general director post is related to a change in the law that transformed the then RTVS into STVR last year and prematurely terminated then director Lubos Machaj's term in office. The new wording of the law gives the council the power to elect and dismiss the general director.
