Simecka: It Is People and Media Who Decides What Gets Broadcast and Watched

Bratislava, May 11 (TASR) – It is citizens and independent media who decide what gets broadcast and watched, Michal Simecka, leader of the opposition Progressive Slovakia (PS) party, stated on Sunday in response to Prime Minister Robert Fico’s (Smer-SD) proposal to ban Sunday political debates. “I’ll save Robert Fico the postage. He doesn’t need to send me any letter proposing a ban on Sunday debates. I know he’s desperately trying to resemble the Russian or Chinese president, but in Slovakia we have freedom and democracy,” Simecka declared. The Prime Minister plans to approach the leaders of political parties to have them officially comment on his proposed agreement to move participation in Sunday political TV shows to weekdays. He added that if no agreement is reached, he will continue to hold Sunday press conferences. mf
