Bratislava, May 9 (TASR) - I welcomed the news of the election of the new Pope Leo XIV with joy and deep respect, House Chair Richard Rasi (Voice-SD) has posted on social media. "I believe that under his leadership, the Church will strengthen the unity of humanity with an open heart in today's world full of challenges and changes, and that it will be a voice of hope for the whole world," he stated in the post. Rasi also expressed his hope that believers in Slovakia will have the opportunity to welcome the new pope during his pontificate. "Slovakia, a country with strong Christian roots, is committed to continuing the development of close, warm and historically lasting relations with the Holy See," he emphasised. American Cardinal Robert Prevost was elected on Thursday by the conclave as the 267th pope of the Catholic Church. The newly elected pope has taken the name Leo XIV. lin/df
