Piestany, May 8 (TASR) - If we want to do something to supplement the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, let's do something to stop the killing around the world, said Parliamentary Chairman Richard Rasi (Voice-SD) in his speech at the national celebrations in Piestany (Trnava region) on Thursday.
Rasi added that peace is a recipe not only for Ukraine, but also for Gaza, Pakistan, India and the whole civilised world.
The parliamentary chair stressed that May 8 isn't just any holiday but one that recalls the day on which the worst military madness in human history ended. It left behind a Europe turned upside down, destroyed and at a moral low, with all human and spiritual rules violated. "The horrors of war were unimaginable, and we are obliged to declare that nothing like this should ever happen again," he said.
Rasi also stated that despite all the horrors and eye-witness accounts, after decades of peace the European continent is again a focal point of wartime madness. "A lasting and sustainable peace is the duty of the civilised world. Peace is a recipe for all regions in which fear, aggression and the rule of the strongest prevail instead of peace and law," he said.
The parliamentary chair noted that people who opposed fascism with weapons in their hands were sitting in the audience, and he stated that all over Slovakia people were paying their respects to tens of thousands of those who paid the highest price. He expressed his hope that the stories of the wartime heroes will serve as a warning testimony wherever people desire unlimited power pursued by rockets and guns.
