Liberation80: Simecka: Horrors of War Must Be Remembered and Learnt from

Bratislava, May 8 (TASR) - Remembering the anniversary of liberation and the victory over Nazism is important in order to prevent a resurgence of efforts and ideologies that could bring back similar suffering as that seen during the Second World War, stated Progressive Slovakia (PS) leader Michal Simecka, who honoured the victims of the biggest war in history alongside his colleagues at the Slavin Memorial in Bratislava on Thursday.
"We remember the enormous number of people of different nationalities who gave their lives for victory over Nazism and for Europe to be able to live in peace for decades," said Simecka. "By commemorating the memory of these victims, we're also appealing to people to ensure that ideologies and efforts that provoke such wartime horrors never gain power and that we're always able to resist them," he added.
In this context, the PS leader considers Premier Robert Fico's (Smer-SD) trip to Moscow for the anniversary of the end of the Second World War to be inappropriate. "It's incredibly unfortunate that the premier is commemorating the anniversary of the end of the war in the Russian Federation, which started and is waging an aggressive war against its neighbour," he added.
