Liberation80: Matica Slovenska Honours in Memoriam Anti-fascist and SNP Fighters

Martin, May 7 (TASR) - The national heritage organisation Matica Slovenska on Wednesday in its headquarters in Martin (Zilina region) awarded extraordinary decorations in memoriam to its members who actively participated in the anti-fascist resistance and the Slovak National Uprising (SNP), Matica Slovenska told TASR on Wednesday, adding that the awards were given on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Slovakia and the end of the Second World War. Matica Slovenska secretary for information and media Jan Seman pointed out that dozens of workers, officials and members of Matica Slovenska were involved in SNP. "Some worked in illegal groups directly in Matica Slovenska, others joined partisan units or were involved in radio broadcasts against the regime or in the Matica theatre as part of the cultural resistance. Some fell, others were imprisoned, tortured or deported," said Seman. am
