Ruzomberok/Bratislava, May 7 (TASR) - In the town of Ruzomberok (Zilina region), a commemorative event was held on Wednesday to mark Victory Day over Fascism and the 80th anniversary of the end of WW2 in Europe, with the remembrance ceremony attended by representatives of the town, political parties, central and state government officials, as well as mayors of nearby towns and municipalities. “This is a commemoration at the Memorial to the Victims of WW2, where we gather every year to honor such events. The event included the laying of wreaths and a speech by the mayor, who highlighted the contributions of those who resisted fascist ideology and who were either direct or silent participants in the battles of the Second World War,” said town spokesperson Vladimir Miskovcik. In his address, Ruzomberok Mayor Lubomir Kuban expressed deep respect for all who had stood up against fascism. “Their courage reminds us that each of us has a responsibility to defend the values on which our free and democratic state is built,” Kuban stated. The mayor also strongly condemned all forms of oppression, lack of freedom, and hateful ideologies, which, unfortunately, are still present today. “Fascism has no place - and must never have a place - in our society. It is an ideology of evil that led to hundreds of thousands of lost lives and immeasurable suffering,” the mayor added, emphasizing that our future must be built on unity, not division. mf
