Velky Saris/Bratislava, May 7 (TASR) - A ceremonial commemorative event was held on Wednesday in the town park near the Memorial to the Fallen in Velky Saris, marking the 80th anniversary of the end of WW2, TASR learnt from Veronika Lazorikova of the Velky Saris town authority. Representatives of the local government, members of the Slovak Union of Anti-Fascist Fighters (SZPB), teachers, students, members of the Pensioners’ Union, and the general public gathered to honor the memory of the victims of the most devastating conflict in human history. The speakers called for the preservation of the historical memory and warned against the resurgence of ideologies that had once brought immense suffering and destruction. “We must not allow ourselves to lose reason, or to let tolerance, respect, and dignity toward others slip away. Our eternal gratitude must always belong to those who were not afraid to die — many of them fought for our freedom. Millions sacrificed the most precious thing of all – their young lives,” said Milos Vincler, head of the local SZPB organization, in his address. mf
